In July 2026 I spoke at Generosity Church in Parkes NSW on Effective Prayer.
I used to be a poster child for the devil’s children, living a crazy and colourful life, but hallelujah, Jesus saved me and made me a child of God!
Today, I want to talk to you about the true impact of prayer and how it can completely transform your situation by inviting almighty God to intervene in your life.
The State of Our World
When we look at the state of our world, we have to realise that the god of this age is the devil. The world is in a fallen state and lies under the sway of the wicked one. He comes to kill, steal, and destroy, but my God came so that we can have life and life more abundantly!. Because we are in a battle against the powers and principalities of this world, we have to use prayer to deal with this opposition and push back the darkness.
Your Words Have Power
You are a spirit who has a soul and dwells in a body. When you came to the Lord, you got saved by speaking words and confessing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior!. The truth is, sticks and stones may break your bones, but your words will define your life. The great revivalist John Wesley once said that it seems God is limited by our prayer life, and that He can do nothing for humanity unless someone asks Him. This means we need to decree and declare God’s will out loud!
Jesus instructed us to direct our prayers to the Father in His name, and He promised that the Father will give us whatever we ask.
Using the Right Type of Prayer
Just like you wouldn’t play golf with a ping-pong bat, you have to use the right type of prayer for your situation.
Here are a few ways we can pray:
Prayer of Consecration:
This is dedicating yourself to God’s will, just like Jesus did when He said, “Lord your will be done”. But remember, you don’t pray this way for things like healing or provision, because God’s word already tells us it is His will to heal and supply us!
Prayer of Petition:
This is when you lay out your specific requests to the Lord and persistently ask Him to move on your behalf.
Prayer of Authority and Faith:
This is when we speak out what God’s word says and command things to happen in Jesus’ name. You can use all your authority to tell sickness, pain, or bad habits to get out of your life!
Prayer of Supplication and Intercession:
Supplication is a humble, earnest request with a sense of urgency, while intercession is standing in the gap for others who need a touch from God.
Prayer of Agreement:
When two of us agree on something in prayer, it can be established!
Overcoming Hindrances and Seeing Miracles
You have to guard your heart, because selfishness, double-mindedness, and unforgiveness will absolutely hinder your prayers. I had to completely forgive a man who once attacked my sister’s house with a sledgehammer, but because Jesus forgave me, I forgave him, and he eventually became my brother!
When our hearts are right and we pray in faith, miracles happen. I have seen a man’s infected tooth miraculously pop out of his mouth without needing surgery, and a young man from Nigeria instantly healed of a severe motorbike shoulder injury through the power of intercessory prayer!
I even got a miracle phone call at exactly 3:00 PM from my dear friend Pastor Francis in Uganda right after he had been in a coma, all because we petitioned heaven for his life!
Brothers and sisters, don’t let the devil distract you from what God wants to do. Jesus completely qualified you for answered prayer, tore the veil, and made a way for you to talk to God the Father anytime!
Let’s step into our authority, agree together, and decree God’s promises over our lives today!
Amen!
