Speak Faith

Welcome back to Matt on a Mission! In this power-packed episode, your host Matthew Knighton and Timothy Ashton delve into the life-changing truth found in the Word of God: the incredible potential that lies within our very own words and how they connect directly to our faith. They unpack the principle Jesus taught, drawing on Luke’s Gospel 6:45, where it says, “out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”

Matt and Tim highlight powerful examples from the Gospels, starting with the woman with the issue of blood in Mark 5:25-34. They show how her healing wasn’t just a physical touch, but was brought about by her faith released through her words and actions – she said “If only I may touch his clothes, I shall be made well,” believed it, and then touched Jesus. Her faith made her well.

They also discuss Jairus, the ruler of the synagogue, whose daughter Jesus resurrected. Jesus told Jairus, “Do not be afraid, only believe,” emphasizing belief even when faced with devastating news. They touch on the two blind men who received their sight after declaring “Yes, Lord” when asked if they believed Jesus could heal them. In each case, their healing was directly tied to their belief, faith, and words.

The conversation moves to Mark 11:22-24, where Jesus teaches his disciples to “Have faith in God,” explaining that whoever says to a “mountain” (representing problems or obstacles) without doubting but believing, will have what they say. They emphasize that this isn’t passive belief, but an active faith involving speaking and action. This aligns with how God created the universe – by speaking it into existence with His word joined with perfect faith.

Matt and Tim also draw examples from the Old Testament, contrasting the fear-filled words of the ten spies who spoke doubt and unbelief about taking the Promised Land (resulting in that generation wandering and dying in the wilderness) with the faith-filled report of Caleb and Joshua who said, “We are well able to overcome it,” because they focused on God’s ability and promise (and were the only ones from that generation to enter the land). David facing Goliath is another example of confessing belief in God’s deliverance.

They stress that this principle applies to all areas of life, not just dramatic situations, and share testimonies of people declaring healing or financial provision based on God’s Word (like 1 Peter 2:24 or Philippians 4:19) and seeing results.

A key takeaway is that having what you say is powerful because we are made in God’s image. Your words are a result of your faith and should align with God’s Word. It’s not about mindless repetition but a deep conviction rooted in God’s truth. We must be mindful of our words, choosing to speak faith, hope, and victory rather than doubt and unbelief. Filling our hearts and renewing our minds with God’s Word is essential for our words to flow in faith.

Join Matt and Tim as they empower you to pay attention to your words and choose to speak life and faith, agreeing with God’s Word to be a world changer for Jesus!
