Do you want to know how to Humble Yourself? The bible has lots of great teachings about this exact topic.
In my latest video, my good friend Tim Ashton joined me to talk about a huge topic. We discussed humility. This is one of the most important things for a Christian to understand. If you want to stop acting “religious” and start walking with God, you need to learn this lesson.

The Mistake of the Religious Leader
Jesus told a famous story in Luke chapter 18. It was about two men. One was a Pharisee (a religious leader) and the other was a tax collector. In those days, people hated tax collectors. They looked at them like criminals.
The religious leader stood up and bragged to God. He said, “God, I thank you that I am not like other men.” He listed all the good things he did. But the tax collector stood far away. He simply asked God for mercy.
Here is the shock: God accepted the tax collector, not the religious leader.
I read this story and prayed, “Lord, don’t let me be like that religious leader.” But then I realized something scary. I was comparing myself to him! I was acting just like the Pharisee. I had to stop and humble myself immediately. We must stop comparing ourselves to others. We do not need to be better than anyone else; we just need God’s help.
Look Up and Look Out
Tim and I talked about two ways to be humble.
1. Look Up to God The Bible tells us in James 4:10 to “Humble yourselves before the Lord”. This means we trust God. We stop trying to force our own success. We stop trying to “hustle” to get to the top. Instead, we wait for God’s timing. He will lift us up when He is ready.
2. Look Out for People This part is harder. Philippians 2:3 tells us to think of other people as more important than ourselves. We cannot judge others. We do not know what it is like to be a homeless person. We do not know what it is like to be a politician. Since we have never walked in their shoes, we cannot judge them. Instead, we should ask, “How can I serve you?”.
Going to the Spiritual Gym
Tim shared a great story in our video. He said humility is like going to the gym. You go to the gym to build muscle and get fit. But if you stop going, you lose your strength. Humility works the same way. You have to work on it every single day.
You have to be careful. The enemy will whisper to you, “Wow, look how humble you are!” If you agree with him, you just became proud! We must always check our hearts. The Bible warns us in Proverbs 18:12 that pride comes before a crash, but humility comes before honor.
Be a Servant Like Jesus
Jesus gave us a clear command. He said in Mark 9:35 that if you want to be first, you must be last. You must be the servant of all.

Think about the Apostle Paul. He used to be a scary religious dictator who attacked Christians. But when he met Jesus, he changed. He became a servant who helped everyone. We must do the same. We must decrease so that Jesus can increase.
Further Study
There are over 100 verses in the Bible that tell us to be humble. God opposes the proud, but He gives grace to the humble.
